Penny Power Coalition Back to Educate Voters about the 1% Sales Tax Ahead of November Election

The Penny Power Coalition has a fresh website to help educate voters about the importance of the Optional 1% Sales Tax (aka the Penny Tax). Since 1976, Campbell County’s Penny Tax has been repairing streets and roads, replacing failing water and sewer lines, and funding veterans’ and senior programs and equipment for the Sheriff’s Office, police, and fire departments.

“Campbell County voters have renewed the Penny Tax every 4 years since 1976 because it provides such important funding for our community,” shared Gail Lofing, Penny Power Coalition organizer. “Our community is stronger because of the Penny, and the voters actually help decide how the County, City of Gillette, and Town of Wright use the funds.” Soon, the yellow Penny Power signs will go up around the community to remind voters just how many projects and organizations have benefited from the Penny Tax. 

The Penny Power Coalition is asking everyone to review the reports, visit the City and County websites, and inform their vote on renewing the Penny Tax this November. 

“We would also ask that voters show their support by displaying a Penny Power yard sign, poster, or banner at their place of business or home. Our community needs the funding provided by the Penny Tax now more than ever, and we need everyone’s support to make sure the Penny Tax is approved in November,” said Lofing.
